The Story of Balanced Bike Fitting – Coaching – Therapy

It all began when my son, Zack, was graduating middle school. My wife, Jane and I wanted to reward Zack with a graduation gift. We offered a bike or a $500 car. Since a $500 car didn’t amount to much, Zack chose the bike. Zack always loved to go fast. The second week after getting the bike, Zack raced in the Missouri State Criterium Championship. He won in his age division. Our family’s life switched to cycling as Zack’s passion grew. He excelled quickly, finishing top 5 in many large races, including the Missouri State Men’s Pro 1/2 Road championship. The highlight of his career was becoming the national champion in the junior 17/18 points race. And then, his cycling came to a devastating end during training in Colorado. Zack underwent three reconstructive ankle surgeries just to walk again. My love and passion for cycling continued. I started “coaching” a few local riders during group rides. One thing led to another and Balanced was born. After the exposure to the world of professional cycling, an idea came to me – what if I provided the tools and techniques of a professional cyclist to the amateur athlete? Balanced Women’s Cycling is the “what if”. We had a very exciting inaugural year and year 2 is starting off with a bang. It’s been great to see weekend riders develop into a dominant force in amateur women’s cycling.
