A Perfect Fit

As someone brand new to racing I have spent my first 6 months on the Balanced Team asking a million questions and learning as much as I possibly can about racing and riding. One thing that I have been shocked and amazed by was my new bike and Retul bike fit. This was not my first bike nor was it my first bike fit, but it was by far the best. From the start of the process Scott took the time to be sure I was buying the correct size bike. As someone who could have went with a larger frame the Retul process suggested I should step down a frame size so I did. The sightly smaller frame has allowed me to corner with more control and feel more comfortable on the bike on long rides. It took me about a month to adjust to the new fit after receiving the bike but then I was off to the races! After a few months Scott suggested I come back and have a re-fit to see how everything was going and how my body was adjusting to the new ride. A few saddle adjustments were made and I immediately noticed a big increase in power and ease of pedaling! I can’t wait to take the bike out again to the races and see what I can do. I never understood the importance of a “perfect bike fit” but I feel like I have one now.

My Personal Experience with Balanced

I have been bike racing for 13 years at the Category 3 and Category 2 road racing level, and have just about every bike fit you can think of. No disrespect to past “fitters” but they always seem to leave you feeling like it fell just short of perfect and left issues unaddressed. To say my first experience getting my bike fit with Scott Stein of Balanced was a highly beneficial experience would be an understatement. I had been dealing with extreme knee pain which quickly subsided within 1 to 2 weeks of the preliminary bike fit on my new bike. Normally it takes weeks to get truly acclimated to a new bike fit. I was racing by that weekend and was able to sustain more watts in and out of the saddle. It was almost too good to be true. My knees felt perfectly aligned and had great full pedal strokes without feeling like I was 10’ in the air and my torso was perfectly stretched out and was able to get air to my lunges 100%. I have had follow up adjustment fits after changing shoes and also having my track bike fitted as well. I experienced nothing but absolute satisfaction from these adjustments and fits. The process is pretty cool and clearly is head and shoulders above any fit system out there. I refer Balanced to everyone who is a serious racer or a cycling enthusiast like my dad. As a business owner myself I appreciate someone dedicated to their craft and that provides the absolute best service.

If you are serious about feeling good on the bike and getting the most out of racing, riding, or whatever you do, this bike fit is a must and is worth every penny.

The Story of Balanced Bike Fitting – Coaching – Therapy

It all began when my son, Zack, was graduating middle school. My wife, Jane and I wanted to reward Zack with a graduation gift. We offered a bike or a $500 car. Since a $500 car didn’t amount to much, Zack chose the bike. Zack always loved to go fast. The second week after getting the bike, Zack raced in the Missouri State Criterium Championship. He won in his age division. Our family’s life switched to cycling as Zack’s passion grew. He excelled quickly, finishing top 5 in many large races, including the Missouri State Men’s Pro 1/2 Road championship. The highlight of his career was becoming the national champion in the junior 17/18 points race. And then, his cycling came to a devastating end during training in Colorado. Zack underwent three reconstructive ankle surgeries just to walk again. My love and passion for cycling continued. I started “coaching” a few local riders during group rides. One thing led to another and Balanced was born. After the exposure to the world of professional cycling, an idea came to me – what if I provided the tools and techniques of a professional cyclist to the amateur athlete? Balanced Women’s Cycling is the “what if”. We had a very exciting inaugural year and year 2 is starting off with a bang. It’s been great to see weekend riders develop into a dominant force in amateur women’s cycling.
